The woman you see in the photo gallery at the bottom of this publication has been unidentified since the date that she was located deceased, on December 10, 1979. She was found murdered at the 700 block of North Corinthian Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The photos in this publication are strictly photo reconstructions that I created in an effort to help bring back her name, in hopes someone may see her photos and recognize her. These photo reconstructions are based off of her post-mortem photos (not shown). I wanted to give her a lifelike appearance, to show what she may have looked like at different angles when she was alive. Keep in mind that I changed her hair style and hair color in each photo to give variations on her appearance. (At the time of her death, she had long brown and gray hair with a reddish-brown wig or hair extensions.) She was a Caucasian female with brown eyes and an estimated height of 5’2″. Her weight was estimated to be at 105 pounds.
Before this Jane Doe’s death, she was known to locals as “Mary Smith”. People in the area described her as either transient or homeless and stated that she had been going around throughout the area, knocking on people’s doors and asking for help.
Her age at the time of her death was estimated to be between 50 and 70 years, which means she was born anywhere from 1909 to 1929.
At the time of this Jane Doe’s death, she was found wearing multiple layers of soiled clothing. A notable article of clothing she was wearing at the time of her death is a headscarf, possibly a babushka. She also had a newspaper clipping in her possession of a business advertisement for a bowling alley in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
It has now been about 44 years since this unidentified woman was found deceased, with no solid clues to her identity or to the perpetrator behind her murder. It is unknown if DNA has been extracted from her remains to compare against missing people listed in CODIS or to be analyzed using forensic genealogy methods.
